The Home Upgrade Grant (HUG) provided energy efficiency upgrades and low carbon heating to low-income households living in off-gas grid homes in England to tackle fuel poverty and make progress towards net zero.
HUG1
HUG 1 was the first wave of HUG funding from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. The Hub made a successful bid for £5m of funding to make homes more energy efficient in Swindon and Wiltshire. This was delivered by City Energy on behalf of the Hub. The scheme has now closed.
The grant provided funding to authorities to deliver energy-saving upgrades in eligible homes, particularly those with low Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) ratings. A total of 44 properties were completed under under the South West Hub’s HUG 1 project.
Eligible measures under the scheme included insulation (such as wall, loft, and underfloor insulation) and low-carbon heating systems. The grant prioritised a fabric-first approach, focussing on improving building insulation before other measures.
Who was eligible?
Homes in the Swindon or Wiltshire area that are:
- Off-gas grid
- With total household income below 30,000 per annum
- Homes with an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) E, F or G.
Find out more about the EPC on the GOV.UK website.
